The Most Influential People in Community Management Today

It’s Community Manager Appreciation Day today, so you have to read this and then tweet to @LinkYeah and @Tales_of_cake telling us how great you think it is. Appreciate me, you ungrateful fools. I order you to appreciate me.

In all seriousness, it’s a busy day today, but I thought it’d be silly to let it pass without at least writing something about it, so used the wonderful Brandwatch tool to take a look at conversation surrounding community management.

I looked at all conversation online over the past 13 months that featured community management-speak, particularly looking at #cmgr, the most popular tag for discussion about community management. Then, using an array of influence metrics, I put this list together, which ranks the most influential people to have talked about community management in the last year.

10/ Tim McDonald (@tamcdonald)

An acquaintance of mine through WOMMA’s community management council, TIm is an active community manager for HuffPostLive

9/ Meghan M. Biro (@MeghanMBiro)

Meghan has penned an impressive 85,000 tweets and is not only a CEO, but also a contributor for Forbes

8/ Dawn Foster (@DawnHFoster)

A stalwart of the Guardian team, this London-based writer talked about community management back in October 2012

7/ Brandie McCallum (@lttlewys)

A co-producer of MyCommunityManager and CM at Sensei Marketing

6/ Kathy Meyer (@2cre8)

An East-Coast based entrepreneur with big ideas talked about Facebook changes for CMs back in April 2012

5/ Vala Afshar (@ValaAfshar)

Both a CCO and CMO, Vala also writes for the Huffington Post

4/ Lori McNee (@LoriMcNeeArtist)

Has fingers in dozens of pies, but often engaged in social, blogging and community management

3/ Lori Moreno (@LoriMoreno)

What are the chances of two Loris in a row? The Moreno version is of the motivational kind and a self-proclaimed #TwitterPowerhouse

2/ Ann Tran (@AnnTran_)

With a name so good it rhymes, this DC-based social media consultant also writes for the Huffington Post – maybe there’s a theme here?

1/ Jeremiah Owyang (@jowyang)

Well, who else were you expecting to top the list? He invented #CMAD, for crying out loud

So there you have it, a short but sweet post on the influencers in #cmgr today. Expect @LinkYeah to be number one this time next year. Any others you think we’ve missed?
